Most roof problems are small when they start. A slipped slate, a cracked ridge tile, a bit of lead that has lifted in the wind. Left alone through a Yorkshire winter they become wet plaster, rotten timber and a much bigger bill. We fix them properly, and we tell you straight if the roof has reached the point where repairing it is throwing money away.
What we repair
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles, matched to what is already on the roof.
- Leaks, traced from the roof side rather than guessed at from the stain on the ceiling.
- Ridge and hip tiles that have come loose or lost their mortar. We usually fit a dry ridge system so it will not need doing again.
- Valleys that have rusted, split or filled with debris.
- Lead flashings around chimneys, walls and roof windows.
- Storm damage, including emergency make-safe work and a report for your insurer.
- Flat roof repairs to GRP, single-ply and felt roofs where a repair is the sensible option.
- Chimney repointing and flaunching while the scaffold or ladders are up.
How we price a repair
We come and look first. Small jobs are often priced on the spot; anything bigger gets a written quote. Either way you know the cost before we start. We carry common slates, tiles, ridge fixings and lead on the van, so a lot of repairs are done on the first visit.
When a repair is the wrong answer
If the roof is nail-sick (the nails holding the slates have rusted through), if the battens are soft, or if you have had the same roof patched more than a couple of times, a repair buys you a winter at most. We will show you what we have found and price a re-roof alongside the repair so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
