Calderdale was roofed in stone slate, and a surprising amount of it is still up there. Stone slate roofs are heavy, graded and laid to shallow pitches on massive timbers, and re-covering one properly is specialist work: every slate is sorted by size and re-laid in diminishing courses on new battens and breathable membrane. We do it, and we enjoy it.
The Victorian terraces of King Cross, Pellon, Skircoat and Boothtown carry Welsh slate, often on roofs with lead valleys and parapet gutters that need skilled leadwork rather than a tube of sealant. Chimneys in Halifax are tall and exposed, and rebuilding or taking them down is a regular job for us.
The weather off the moors finds every weakness. We cover storm damage across Calderdale with 24/7 emergency call-outs, and we give you the report and photos you need for an insurance claim.
Getting to Halifax
Halifax is about half an hour from Morley by the M62. Elland, Brighouse, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe are on the near side; Sowerby Bridge, Luddenden and the upper valley are further but well within our range.
