The Spen Valley has a bit of everything. Stone terraces and mill cottages in Cleckheaton, Liversedge and Hightown under Welsh slate and stone slate; the bigger Victorian houses of Gomersal and Oakenshaw with their complicated roofs, lead valleys and tall stacks; post-war semis on concrete tile around Moorend and Scholes; and new estates filling the spaces between.
We re-roof in natural slate where the house deserves it, re-lay stone slate where it survives, and fit concrete and slate-effect tile on the semis. Dormers for loft conversions are common in the valley’s three-bedroom semis, and GRP flat roofs on extensions and garages are everyday work.
Being ten minutes away makes a difference on emergencies and on the small jobs other firms will not travel for. A single slipped slate in Cleckheaton is worth our while.
