Morley’s housing runs from stone terraces around the town centre and Queen Street, through the brick semis of the 1930s to the 1970s on the estates towards Churwell and Tingley, to the newer developments off Bruntcliffe Road. We have worked on all of them.
The stone terraces mostly started life under Welsh slate or stone slate, and a lot of them have been re-covered in concrete tile over the years. Where the original slate is still on, we can often strip, sort and re-lay it on new battens and membrane rather than replace it. The semis were built for concrete interlocking tiles and that is usually what we put back, with dry ridge and verge so there is no mortar to maintain.
Being local matters most when something goes wrong. A ridge tile off in a gale or a leak over the stairs is a phone call and a short drive, not a day’s wait.
